A day in the life of a french hairstylist living in USA

Always the same hairdo from my stylist!

katie_holmes4001Clients have a funny way to show their appreciation to stylist. The first time you meet is like a first date ,the 20/20 question , then the awkward responses. Only  at the end of the day you look like a brand new you ,or ,6 weeks of hell hair days. The good news is hair grows back, always. So now you enter a long time relationship with  great haircut every time you come and visit, but then ,here comes the test . You  find the holy grail , Solomon’s mine, the perfect hair cut,the easy style, the one defining you. Now ,every time you come in ,your stylist says”Anything different today”and your insert always the same”No i love my cut let’s  stick with it”. Then one day,you see your best friend with a new style ,you love it!!! you’ve got to have it!!! and you first question is, where did you get this hair cut?  Give me the name of your stylist. You  forget every great haircut ,you are not even going to ask your stylist because he always does the same style ,you know, the one who defines you.  No ,you are going to go see a perfect stranger, who doesn’t know anything about your hair, lifestyle, how much time you have,is this haircut for you hair texture, how often  do you need to cut? Then it is 50/50,it works or you are now officially in hell. Two types of client ,the first one is going to call her stylist and apologies non stop . Then client number two,is going to go from place to place, not knowing , where is the next mistake. All this could have been just a bad nightmare if you just had asked your stylist for that new style. He knows you, your hair ,and a lot more than most people don’t know about you.  So next time you see him,ask him if he has any new ideas for your style ,cut ,color ,anything ?And you will see the best friend with that fantastic new style will be,YOU.

Blow drying , 101

You just finish washing your  hair , first thing first, towel dry your hair, remove a maximum of the water from your hair. Then comes one  of the most important parts of your drying success. Depending on your hair texture ,select a mousse or a styling product to apply on your hair . Best way  with mousse is to put a tangerine size  amount of mouse in your hand ,then with a comb start by putting the mousse from the edge to the inside all around your hairline ,then with what is left with both hands massage it through your hair. With a comb ,finish by combing  in every direction. Then with your dryer start drying your hair to approximatively 70% dry ,then use your brush. Want  a lot of volume but straighter hair?  Take small amount of hair, with a big brush. Want  a lot of volume and some  curl and wave?  Use big pieces of hair with a smaller brush. For more, leave me a comment with your question.

April 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

bob-haircut

When  spring fever  for a new haircut start , it is very confusing.

First , some layers, or shorter hair, or maybe longer, why not some bangs!

first thing first, how much time will i have for this new me? 5 minutes ? 10? 15? No really ! The average time a woman is ready to give to her hair in the morning is about 8 minutes, yes , 8 minutes for ,prep work, mousse ,anti frizz then blow-dry  then some pomade and to finish some hairspray .No wonder ,it does get scary  to try something new ,when the routine has settled in. You can wear  any style as long it is adapted to your bone structures, your hair texture ,and the time as you figure out by now, you are ready to allow. Your haircut must feel like one with you,the person and life style you are . Let your stylist guide you through the process ,give him as much information about your daily routine  ,he will be able to find a style just for you.

Economic hard time does not mean ugly time!

April 1, 2009 · 2 Comments

In this economy , many would liked to save some money on their hi-lighted hair by going back to their natural color. First , any color over this hi-light will look too dark .This is the reason for keeping some accent hi light in the front to break the one tone color. Any change will need an adaptation time, your  friends and colleagues will notice a difference with your hair, so do not think this is an easy transition but when you feel the crunch of the expense of hi light this can be a solution to extend the time between color service.img-int07
